Wuhan (武汉) is the capital city of Hubei province, People's Republic of China, and is the most populous city in Central China. It lies in the eastern Jianghan Plain at the intersection of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and Han River. Arising out of the conglomeration of three cities, Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, Wuhan is known as 'the nine provinces' leading thoroughfare'; it is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads and expressways passing through the city. Because of its key role in domestic transportation, Wuhan is sometimes referred to as the "Chicago of China". It is recognized as the political, economic, financial, cultural, and educational center and transportation center of central China.

Major Scenic Regions in Wuhan:

1. Yellow Crane Tower

Yellow Crane Tower (黄鹤楼) is a famous and historic tower, which was first built in 223 AD. The current structure, however, was rebuilt in 1981 at one kilometer distance from the original site, and bears little resemblance to the historical Yellow Crane Tower. The tower stands on Sheshan (Snake Hill), at the bank of Yangtze River in Wuchang District, Wuhan, in Hubei province of central China.
 



2. East Lake

East Lake (东湖) is a large lake within the city limits of Wuhan, China, and the largest urban lake in China. Wuhan's East Lake covers an area of 33 square kilometers. It was designated as one of the 4A tourist zones of China in year of 2000. In the East Lake scenic spot, there are bird sanctuary, botanical garden, museums, boat rides, fishing, cycling, a public aquarium, and other facilities provided for locals and tourists alike.


3. Mo Hill

An important part of the famous Wuhan East Lake Scenic Area, Mo Hill, also called Millstone Hill, lies in southeast of East Lake. The graceful east peak that looks like a millstone gave the hill its present name, Millstone Hill. Covering a total area of about 5 square kilometers, it boasts abundant plants and unique gardens, amid the culture of the State of Chu (one of the seven warring states before Qin (221BC - 206BC) in China's first feudal dynasty). Many charming scenes, such as Chutian Jimu (Looking at the State of Chu As Far As One Can See), Botanical-Viewing Garden, Tiantai Chenxi (Morning Rays of Heaven Platform), and Zhu De's Stele Pavilion, are located on the hill.


4. Hubei Province Museum

The Hubei Province museum is the only provincial level comprehensive museum in Hubei, located at the shore of Wuhan East Lake, mainly undertaking the entire province cultural relic collection, the storage, the protection, the exhibition display and the holding research work.
 


5. Chu River & Han Street

Chu River and Han Street (楚河汉街) is like the picture of "Riverside Scenes at the Qingming Festival". Han Street, which lies in the south of Chu River, is 1500 meters long and covers 180,000 square meters. There are more than 300 first-class brands in it, including foods, gifts, clothes, entertainments and so forth. The Buildings of this street are mostly the Mingguo style, with current fashionable style and European style architecture. The only seven-star hotel in Asian will be located beside Chu River. The night scene is more attractive.


6. Hubu Lane

Hubu Lane is located in Wuchang District in the length of 150 meters, which has more than hundred years of history in Wuhan. For the history and geography reasons, the breakfast was famous last 20 years. There is a lot of classic Wuhan breakfast in Hubu Lane.
 


7. Guqing Terrace

In Hanyang of Hubei Province, there is an ancient Guqin Terrace. Its touching tale began more than 2000 years ago, when a man YuBoya who was famous for his zither (guqin) playing, but was always disappointed that people merely understood his music. A woodman called ZhongZiqi can understand his music perfectly. Knowing that he had finally found a friend who truly understood his music, YuBoya and ZhongZIqi became sworn brothers. A few years later, BoYa passing Gui Mountain again, but Ziqing was dead, Yoya was so sad and swear never play zither. To commemorate their friendship, people built the Guqin Terrance.


8. Xin Hai Revolution Memorial Hall

Xin Hai Revolution Memorial Hall (辛亥革命武昌起义纪念馆) is established as a museum relying on the former site of the Wuchang Uprising military government. It covers an area of over 20,650 square meters, construction area of nearly 10,000 square meters. Wuhan people called "Red Building".
 


9. Gui Yuan Temple

Guiyuan Temple (归元寺) is located in the western end of Hanyang Cuiwei Street; It was built by White Mage in Shunzhi 15 years (1658). It is the most popular temple in Wuhan.
 


10. Wuhan River Beach Park

Wuhan River Beach Park (武汉江滩公园) is located in Hankou, with an area of 1.6 million square meters. The landscape along the road, adjacent to the Yellow Crane Tower scenic river, constitutes the unique charm of the downtown area of Wuhan landscape center. It is the charming landscape center in Wuhan downtown. It is a good choice to see the night scene in summer.
 


Surrounding Scenic Region:


1. Wudang Mountain

Wudang Mountain (武当山), also known as Taihe Mountain, is located in Danjiangkou City, northwest of Hubei Province. In the late period of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Taoism was born and Wudang Mountain was respected as the immortal mountain of Taoism. The total area is 312 square kilometers. In 1994, Wudang Mountain was listed as world cultural heritage.
 


2.  Mulan Moutain

Mulan Mountain (木兰山) is located in the north of Huangpi District in Wuhan. It is the Mulan general hometown. It is the national 4A level scenic spot, and also Buddhism and Taoism holy land.


3. Ming Xian Mausoleum

Ming Xian Mausoleum (明显陵) is located in Zhongxiang City of Hubei Province. It was first build in MingZhengDe fourteen years (1519). In January 1988, it was listed as a national key cultural relic's protection unit by the State Council. It was approved by the UNESCO as "World Heritage List" on 30 November 2000. In April 2008, mausoleum was approved by the National Tourism Administration AAAA level scenic spots. It is one of world cultural heritage in Hubei Province.
 


4. Yinshui Cave

Yinshui Cave (隐水洞) is located in Tongshan country of Hubei Province, 130 kilometers form Wuhan, and the traffic is very convenient. The major cave is length 5000 meters, 20 meters high, and 25 meters wide. It need to take boat and train to visit the cave.
 


5. Three Gorges Dam

The Three Gorges Dam (三峡大坝) project is one of the most controversial and international river issues. The dam would cross the Yangtze River, which is the third largest river in the world, at a point where the river is a mile wide. The 610 foot dam would create a 39 billion cubic meter reservoir that would stretch for 400 miles. Not only is this the largest dam ever built, it is the largest construction undertaking. Financial backing has come from many national and international sources, including United States companies. China has also sought outside engineering and construction consulting from companies including Caterpillar Construction Company. The tourism region covers an area of 15.28 square kilometers. It is the first batch of national 4A level scenic spot (now is 5A level scenic spot).


6. Shen Nong Jia

Shennongjia (神农架) is located in the western border of Hubei province. Shennongjia is the only well-preserved oasis in inland China and the world’s green treasure in mid-latitude regions, which holds the only intact subtropical forest ecosystems in mid-latitude regions. It has the richest characteristic world-class tourism resources.
